face that laughs every time i fall it watches everything
Comfort food. Food was great for many things - mainly for comfort, hunger, and helping get rid of hangovers. Which was basicallly why Kimi was here at this small fast food restaurant, chomping down on some fries. She had a cup of water sitting in front of her, and she took great gulps from it every minute or so. She also ate her food without shame. Some people, namely exceedingly skinny blondes who were obviously rich and preppy, turned their heads as they passed her table to see her eating and drinking without stop. Kimi never really cared about what other people thought of her, and she reminded herself of that as she licked off ketchup from her fingers. Nope. Didn't care at all. Hell, she was Kimi Shantelle Kingsfield.
After finishing off her fries, Kimi examined the jewelry she was wearing on her hand. She was wearing a bracelet from her father and a little sapphire ring she'd gotten for her fifteenth birthday. It wasn't on her ring finger - oh Lord no. Kimi wanted to show off the fact that she was single. Sure, some guys approached her on a day-to-day basis. But most of them were looking for one-night stands and wanted to get into her pants and then be done with her. Kimi simply wasn't that kind of person, and then brushed off the idiots who had been flirting with her. Only after she figured out what they wanted. It was practically a religious practice by now.
She smirked and got up from her table. Kimi wanted more food. Shamelessly, she went back up to line and ordered the first thing she saw. Tapping her chin with her finger and pulling out a ten-dollar bill, she said, "I think I'll take a cheeseburger meal, please. For here." Smirking over her shoulder at the skinny blondes, she leaned up against the counter and waited for her order. Kimi then licked more ketchup off her fingers, and wiped them with a nearby napkin. Ah, the life of a superstar, she thought wistfully. What a blast. Yes, because she planned on being a superstar. She planned on bringing California Chaos to the top. She was ready for it. The fame, the glory, the deals, the money. She was ready to leave the name Kingsfield behind. [/blockquote]

From the time he moved from Tennessee he always found himself stopping here to eat. Was it the smell of all different types of foods or the cranky people who always seemed like the were in a hurry to be somewhere at a specific time, he didn't know. Hell, this place reminded him of the Tour Campus. Except, it smelled better here. He looked around at the people who were eating, they seemed like they were minding their own business, but Damon could see every paranoid look and the eavesdropping that went on. There was one guy in particular that busied himself with a chicken sandwich, the paranoia was clear on his face, the way he looked at anyone came near him like they were out to get him. 'Buddy, I promise, no one's gonna steal your chicken.' He smirked to himself and gave the room another scan.
His dark brown eyes landed on a gorgeous girl leaning against the counter. Probably waiting for her food, he wondered if she was one of those types who recorded every calorie they ate or drank. Those types annoyed him. Why care what people think when you could be just as happy, even happier maybe, being careless? And if someone cares then screw them. They can get over it. He moved away from his tirade and focused on the beauty he that possessed his attention. He leaned against the wall.
Suddenly, he realized he probably looked a little creepy. He didn't want to come off as a stalker, hell no. He quickly tore his gaze from her and looked around the large room for food that appealed to him. Finally, he made his way toward the concession the girl he had seen before was at. By now there was a small line waiting after her. Looks like he'd have to wait his turn. He snuck a couple glances at the girl, wondering what her name was. 'If it's Ariana, I'll shoot myself.' Now, obviously he wouldn't do that. But, he'd be out of there in a moment's notice, that's for sure. He didn't need to relive any of that.

Kimi was only vaguely aware of someone watching her in the fast food restaurant as she awaited her order. But, being one of those carefree spirits who really didn't care about much, it was obvious that Kimi didn't care. She studied her nails in a very un-Kimi-like fashion and sighed dramatically. Where was her food? All because she was carefree didn't mean she was patient. She leaned on the counter, observing as all the little workers in their ridiculous polo uniforms scurried around, getting orders ready. She smirked as she watched them. God forbid if she ever ended up working in a place like this. If she was lucky, she would be able to rock out all her life until people didn't like her anymore - and she'd be filthy rich by then.
When she finally got her cheeseburger meal, Kimi finally got the full-blown instinct that somebody's eyes were on her. She yawned, and looked around the restaurant, searching for those exact pair of eyes she had felt investigating her a few seconds ago. Some girls would be freaked out, and others would try to ignore it. Kimi was just curious. If the guy was cute, then maybe she would investigate further by striking up a conversation. It took her a moment before she found the guy who had been looking at her. He was just then looking away, and Kimi felt herself smile. Huh. He was pretty gorgeous, as far as men went. Putting a smirk on that face of hers, she strutted towards him with her food in hand.
"You gonna keep staring, or are you actually going to say something?" Kimi asked. She didn't say it in a demanded tone - more of a teasing one. She did her best not to sound snobby or preppy, but who knew what her voice sounded like? Kimi refused to let herself be phased and smiled in the guy's direction. Damn, he was cute. Hot, even. She ventured to think that he might be in a band - because his face was faintly familiar. She might have seen it in a flyer somewhere around town... who knew? "The name's Kimi. I'm with the Let Loose Tour." Kimi decided to be bold and give her name first. She even went so far as to wink at him with a small grin. Who knew how he would react? Kimi had no idea the effect she had on the male gender.

Hands in pockets, he waited not-so-patiently in line, he continued looking up at the girl, whom had just gotten her food - finally. The line moved up a couple steps and the girl walked away. But then she stopped, a flicker of realization danced on her face, but it was gone just as quickly as it appeared. She stretched her arms out in a yawn and he caught her eye, but he didn't hold it for long. He looked away, his heart sped up for a few seconds before slowing back down he could feel her eyes on him.
The line moved forward a couple steps, he was third in line now. He jumped ever so slightly that it wasn't noticeable, but now the girl was right next to him, talking to him even. "You gonna keep staring, or are you actually going to say something?" She had caught him off guard, he wasn't expecting to actually talk to her, of course he didn't mind. He put his hand on his chest and looked around as if she had been talking to someone else. But, he smirked to show he was just teasing. "I wasn't sure if I was allowed to go near you or not. After all, angels don't like the company of demons." He winked, he wasn't sure how cheesy his words came out to sound, but he didn't mind, as long as it put a smile on her face. 'Kimi..' He thought, then whispered it quietly, trying it out on his lips. Relief flooded over him, she wasn't an Ariana. And, she was from the Let Loose Tour, as well. "Kimi, I like that." He put out his hand to shake her own, "I'm Damon. I'm also on the Let Loose Tour. What band you play in?" He looked her over in his peripherals, she was gorgeous, in every way. Her dark hair was long and mesmerizing, and her eyes shone a bright blue, the color of the midday sky. He smiled that charming smile of his and awaited her reply.[/blockquote]

As soon as Damon responded to her remark, Kimi smirked. Ah, so this guy was the type to make those cheesy remarks, even if he didn't mean to. She didn't particularly mind - but she found it a little amusing. Her blue eyes lit up and she looked him over quickly, trying to make it not too obvious. He was cute; really, really, cute. The type she could definitely see herself with, but of course Kimi didn't just look on the surface. She'd have to get to know him, one way or the other. If that meant they only had this one conersation, she had to make it count. Kimi did her best smile and put her free hand on her hip. She took her time responding, because she was struggling with an equally cheesy remark.
Suddenly, Kimi thought of one. "Hmm, well I thought angels were meant to save demons. Not stay away from them," she answered, mimicking his tone with that same smile plastered on her face. Flirting was fun, and it was one of Kimi's favorite habits. Her blue eyes glinted wickedly as she looked him over again. Yeah, he was really cute. She hoped that it wasn't too obvious, but she wasn't about to change her style. Kimi was interested, her food all but forgotten. Her table still sat empty on the other side of the small place, her cup of water there all by itself. Well, hopefully when she returned she wouldn't be alone.
And his name was Damon. The smile grew slightly larger at the sound of his name. The name suited him. "I like Damon too. Very manly." She winked at him again and listened as he explained that he too was on the tour. Her smile turned into a full-blown grin and she felt relief pour over her like water on a cool day. Kimi would definitely see him again, and so she would have longer than this single conversation to get to know him. She made a vow that she would talk to him again. "I'm with California Chaos. I play the bass. Who're you here with, Damon?" She said his name with as much sass as she could, the grin deflating into a smirk.

She had a beautiful smile, Kimi did. He may even toss up for discussion that she was even more radiant than Ariana was. But, again, it was debatable. Ariana had the same dark hair, though her eyes were a purple-grey while Kimi's was a beautiful light blue, it reminded him of sapphire the way it shined, it was that very fact that drew him to think that Kimi conquered Ariana in appearance. Kimi was very fit, though she didn't seem to care what she ate. Damon liked that in a girl. Ariana was always watching her weight, it made him think that she would grow to be fat if she did not. Kimi wasn't like that. He noticed her looking him over a little, it was harmless of course, he was doing the same thing. Kimi looked like a waitress, the way she held her tray in one hand, the other resting skillfully on her hip. He wondered if she had a second job waitressing, but quickly thought against it. She was on the Let Loose Tour, that was very unlikely. Perhaps she had a job like that in the past.
Her remark was just as cheesy as his was, that forced a wide-spread grin to shoot across his face, she had a sense of humor, too. That was good. He liked a girl he could joke around with. "Demons aren't meant to be saved, purity doesn't mix with the damned." It was just a little harmless flirting, it's not like they were making out in the corner or anything. His smile belittled itself into a half-smile-like smirk and the line moved forward again, he was now second in line. He stepped forward a few paces, walking sideways to make sure she followed him, he wasn't ready to finish this conversation just yet. 'Very manly.' Now, that was a new one. He had never heard his name be called manly before. Sexy, sure. Different, all the time. Manly, never. he couldn't help but give a light breath of laughter at that. "Thanks for the compliment. Yours is very angelic," he answered, a retrospect of their past conversation of angels and demons. It was nice to hear they were on the same tour, he would definitely be seeing more of her, then. And she was a bassist, they had more in common than he could have hoped to imagine. "California Chaos, yeah, I've heard of them. I hear you guys are some tough competition this year." he paused a moment before answering her question, letting the fact that her band was considered tough competition sink in. "I'm in Letter From Jane, I'm a bassist, too. What do you play?" He was suddenly even more interested in the conversation than he had been previously, now that they had a passion that they both shared the conversation had many possibilities to going somewhere.[/blockquote]

Kimi couldn't help but repress the deep satisfaction when she noticed that Damon was looking her over too. Many guys did that, but for some reason this time it felt different. Most of the men she approached, after noticing them watching her like a hawk, shied away from actual conversation. It was obvious what they had all wanted. Physical, physical, physical. Kimi was almost convinced that was all that males wanted at this point. But Damon was different. They were actually having a conversation - one that didn't resort around sports, alcohol, or women. It was a nice change from all the guys she had met in high school. And it was a definite change from her last boyfriend. So the smile stayed in place as she listened to what he said in response.
"Demons aren't meant to be saved, purity doesn't mix with the damned," was what he had said. Kimi's smile grew to a grin and she couldn't help but chuckle. "I was under the impression that in a town like this, purity mixes with the damned every day. And night." Kimi then finally noticed that he was standing in line. For food. Maybe they would be able to head back to her table, and prolong their conversation. Of course, she'd have to wait until he got his food. She didn't want to seem too hasty, though he had probably already noticed how she was looking him over. It was best to keep him waiting just a tad longer. She laughed at his reference to the angels and demons part of their conversation, and beamed. "So they tell me," was her response to that comment.
Any traces of the hangover she'd had this morning were definitely gone now. Kimi came to stand next in line to him, ignoring the grumble of protest when she blocked other people's view to the menu. She really didn't care. "Well, I've been playing the bass for a few years. And from time to time I also play the role of song-writer. If you've ever heard Out of the Loop by us, that was all me, no matter what our manager tries to tell people," she answered to his last question. Kimi looked at Damon again, this time noting his deep eyes. He didn't look like those shallow losers Kimi saw at the bar almost every night. There was something deeper to him, some kind of mystery. Well, hey. She'd always loved the Scooby Doo show when she was a kid - mysteries were a kick. "Do you write songs from time to time, Mr. Damned Demon?" she asked, using her own little reference right then. Playing this game was fun.

As a flicker of satisfaction danced in her baby blues his tan cheeks darkened in color. She must have noticed him checking her out, that was a little embarrassing, he was trying not to show it and she caught him red-handed. Of course, he knew she was looking at him too, but still. He couldn't help but pull away from her gaze for a few moments, he couldn't be shy at times. Especially when he was caught in a belittling act as sizing up a girl. Ariana thought it was cute; Kimi wasn't Ariana, Kimi might think he was stupid or something. He faced her again, trying to catch her eye for the second time, hoping he didn't just kill the conversation.
"I was under the impression that in a town like this, purity mixes with the damned every day. And night." He smirked, that was clever. "Let me let you in on a little secret about the glamor of L.A.," He replied, leaning in a little and lowering his voice to a schmid above a whisper, "Everyone here falls under the 'damned' category, everyone but you, anyway." He winked, finally finding his courage once again. At her final statement about her name, he simply nodded and proposed, "Maybe there's a reason for that. " Her name was simple, yet it had class and a nice ring to it. It was angelic, just like her features. The people behind them muttered and complained about their new positioning. He rolled his eyes, he wasn't in the mood to put up with whiny people. "You've got feet, can't you see she's carrying something? If you move I think you'll see the board just fine." He held the man's glare for a few moments and when he realized he wasn't going to be the one to look away first he smirked and remarked, "Nice socks." When the man tore his eyes from his own dark irises and and glanced down at his feet, it was over. Small victories are better than none at all. Damon gave a light chuckle and turned his attention back to Kimi. It was now his turn to order. He looked over at the dark haired beauty beside him gestured to the counter and said, "Hold on one second, this shouldn't take long." He turned to the cashier. "Uhmm.. I'll take a steak and cheese, American, please. And.. A Pepsi. And a side of fries." When the worker asked if he wanted anything else, he merely shook his head, handed her the money and returned to the more important conversation. So, she's been playing for years. That was more than he had been, in a way. She also wrote songs, he had never actually listened to any of California Chaos's music, but he nodded as if he knew what she was talking about. "I started out playing guitar, but a couple years back I switched to bass. It's what Letter From Jane needed, so that's what I made myself be." Damon was passionately committed to his band, he would literally do anything for them, they were just about all he had. 'Mr. Damned Demon.' That was a new one too. Bastard, Son-of-a-whore, Trouble; he'd heard all of those before. This was just another new thing Kimi could offer him. "Yeah, I write. Mainly stuff that never gets shown to anyone but myself. But I don't mind, I leave that to Alexis; she's our vocalist, by the way."[/blockquote]

All Kimi could think was that there was something different - something good - about this young man that she found interesting and almost intoxicating. She watched him carerfully, taking in his every move. A smile flitted across her lips as he mentioned that everyone was damned but her. Not many people had ever said that to her. Sure, she'd never been made fun of or anything of the sort, but nobody had used the name Kimi and the word 'angelic' in the same sentence. This Damon was making her feel special, and she really liked it. Not to mention right after that, he defended her honor by telling the people behind them to stop moping. The smile grew slightly. That was sweet of him to do something like that.
"Don't worry. I'll wait as long as it takes," Kimi remarked with a mischievous grin as Damon then ordered his food. Kimi brightened. She could ask him to sit with her now, and she felt like squirming in excitement. The thing was, they had something in common - no matter how small that thing was, it was still influential in Kimi's opinion. He didn't seem like he cared what he ate, but then again, most guys didn't unless they were gay... and sometimes gays didn't care either. James, the vocalist from her band, swung that way and he was a good friend of hers. The thought of him sent a smirk across her face, but it was gone as soon as it had appeared.
As he explained the band he was in and about his bass and the songs he wrote, Kimi made a move to start walking back to her table. "Hey, I was already here when you came in. You want to take a seat at my table, handsome?" She winked for what felt like the thousandth time today and strutted back to her own table, not looking back to see if he was following. You can only lead a horse to water, she reminded herself as she took a seat. Regardless of whether he was there or not, she said, "Well, if you write, you should show them to... um... Alexis, right? I'd love to hear a song of yours. What else do you like to do, besides flirt with girls like me?" The smirk was back as she leaned back in her chair, opening up her bag and slipping a fry into her mouth and chewing thoughtfully.

The reactions Kimi submitted to him were energizing, the way she smiled gave him a burst of adrenaline gave him the notion that he could do anything. Anything. That was one thing Ariana had never done to him. When he looked at or thought of Ari he used to smile, it gave him butterflies, but nothing more. Now, though, when he thought of Ari nausea passed through him and he felt like her memories was a cat with its claws unsheathed shredding his heart into a bloody pulp in his heart. Her memory hurt him, he just wanted to forget. Kimi helped him forget, he realized. When he talked to her or looked at her, he forgot about Ariana. All he could think of was Kimi. All that mattered was Kimi. She had a way of taking over his mind in a way that was peaceful, she was like a breath of fresh air opposed to Ariana's smoke.
He could feel a wave of energy come off of Kimi as he turned away to order. Maybe they could share a table or something. Sure, he had to get back to the bus, find Alexis and work on some material, but he wasn't ready to leave Kimi yet. She was an interesting girl and his whole body yearned to learn more about her. There was something about Kimi that made him think that he could confide in her. L.A. was a dangerous place, he vowed he wouldn't trust anyone here, would Kimi be the one to make him go back on that promise? He vowed he wouldn't get hurt here. Would Kimi change that as well? He pushed that thought away. He needed to let go of some of the hurt inside that he hid so well, Kimi could be the one to save him from himself, before something bad happened. Kimi didn't know it, but he needed her more than she could imagine. Sure, he had Alexis.. But Alexis wasn't really the type he could spill his heart out to.
When she invited him to sit with her at her table the adrenaline rush shot through him again and he couldn't push back the smile and crept onto his lips and spread out across his mouth. "Yeah, sure." He quickly followed after her, he refused to allow himself to miss the chance to get to know her better. He sat down across the small table from Kimi, place his meal down in front of him, and took a sip of his Pepsi. "Well.. Alexis is our songwriter, I usually just let her do her stuff. She's amazing when it comes to that. I couldn't compare.." He shrugged a-matter-of-factly. That just was the way things were. He let out a quiet laugh at her question. "This may surprise you, but I'm not exactly the flirting type. I don't usually flirt with girls, I mean. Well, I'm not gay or anything.. I just.. I don't know. I'm making an ass of myself." He could feel his cheeks turning red with embarrassment of his babbling. "Anyways.. I like to do a lot of things, I like to play football, go to the beach, mess around on my laptop.. Write songs, watch movies.. Just really casual things apart from playing with Letter From Jane." "Besides being amazingly beautiful," He retaliated with a wink, "What do you do in your spare time, Angel?"[/blockquote]
